With 26 years of experience in this industry, I can say that the life of a real estate agent is totally different from a regular employee. You don’t have to work a traditional 9-to-5 shift to earn your monthly income. Your work starts from the moment you wake up and till the time you doze off. The difference between working for someone and working on your own is tremendous. When you work for an organization, your role is specific. You have a well-designed job description and the nature of work assigned to you is limited and you are responsible only for that.
However, when it comes to running your personal venture, everything changes. You have to manage the finances, follow the leads, attract the buyers, provide the information, keep updates in your industry, keep an eye on other competitors and meet everyone from your competitors to clients and associates. Practically, every second of your day is either spent in developing your business or thinking about the strategies to grow it further.
In this situation, it can be very hard to maintain the work-life balance. In fact, it can sometimes be totally unmanageable.
You Should Reserve Time for Yourself
No matter how important a task is, there is nothing more important than you. It is very important to take care of your health and well-being while maintaining a balance in different spheres of life. Learn to disconnect for some time each day. It can be for as short as ten minutes, but take time to reflect on yourself and your goals and strategic implementation. It is necessary to have some time to unwind and relax from the hustle and bustle of everyday activities.
First Things First, Learn to Prioritize
When it comes to running your own real estate business, a lot of hurdles and problems arise due to mismanagement of affairs. It is very important to make a priority list. Make a list of the top things to be done every day and complete them first. Some of the highly prioritized things you should do everyday include:
- Separate one hour each day to answer queries, reply to emails and voicemails.
- You should also include a separate time for cultivating leads through various online platforms including blogging, newsletters and email databases.
Outsource Monotonous Tasks
I would definitely suggest you to hire an assistant to do regular tasks if you want to focus on the more strategic aspects of your business. You will make your life a lot easier if you can get someone else to do the monotonous tasks of every day while you focus on the bigger stuff.
You can hire a personal assistant or virtual assistant to cover the following things:
- Updating your listing and uploading it
- Making changes on your website
- Handling the contact database
- Gathering paperwork
- Making presentations and reports
